Statement of Purpose
I graduated from Beijing Technology and Business University (BTBU) in China. My bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Automation (food machinery) enriches my knowledge that people who apply for Business Management merely have. When I studied engineering, I always participated in competition, like Team Leader/Mechanical Innovation Design Contest for Capital College Students and Member/ Research of New and Flexible Organic Light-Emitting Device. After a short-term internship in AXA Hong Kong, Bank of East Asia, and intern at China Association for Ethical Studies, I had more interests in how human resource manager work, how to manage employee in a big company. The MS in Management will allow me to achieve my goal of gaining a now field knowledge, which I was desired. Some position required a related education background, so that I can find a job related to business.
The older we grow, the more we find about ourselves. I decided to major in Mechanical Engineering & Automation when I was admitted by BTBU, due to my excellent scores in math and scientific courses. However, in a university campus, as I involved in more and more things, I gradually found that my interest did not lie in engineering technology, but the communication with people. Compared with specialized courses, Operational Research, Management, and Organizational Behavior can inspire more of my passion. In addition, since I have organized plenty of extracurricular activities as the President of the Student Union of School of Material and Mechanical Engineering, BTBU, I deeply felt the fun from reasonable coordinating and stimulating morale of others in completing a task. Meanwhile, I discovered my talent in doing this. Therefore, I think that Business Management is more suitable for me. And thus I want to pursue a Master’s degree in Management to get a systematic study on this major. In March 2014, I got an opportunity to intern at China Association for Ethical Studies as the assistant of HR Supervisor. At the beginning, I was only responsible for collating various documents and handling mails. To be more qualified, I studied the Association’s human resources information system and regulations while engaging in the work that HR Supervisor assigned to me. Because of my excellent working performance, later, I was given more complicated and professional tasks related to HRM, for example, arranging interviews and handling recruited formalities for new employees. During the process, I contacted with different people from different departments, got familiar with recruited and departure procedures, and mastered basic interview and selection skills. Through this internship, I improved my hands-on ability and got that a company’s efficiency has a very close relationship with the staff qualities. Hence, I cemented my determination of pursuing a further degree in Management to strengthen my management and ability to identify talent.
Pathway helped me to adopt the graduate academic environment on practice doing some discipline related assignments. I start to read the journals on my field and complete academic level analytical work. Due to my lower grades GRE scores on verbal, I took it only once and that was before I came to the State. I have confident that this scores could not become the barrier that block my way to Mason. In spite of a comparatively short history, Mason showed its potential value on Business School and also its location close to the DMV, I would have the opportunity to apply for jobs after the completion of my graduate program. My three greatest strengths: discipline, adaptability and focus, would help me succeed in higher education, especially discipline and focus which would help me put more effort in my academic courses and career. With these I will be valuable to my program and would be a unique and hardworking student to them. It would create no room for distraction and also create an environment of which I can adaptable to irrespective of the career choices I make or I eventually find myself in.
During my graduate studies, I hope to conduct a systematic study on management. After graduation, I wish to work for one of the world top 500 enterprises, especially the ones focusing on machine manufacturing and sale, engaging in recruitment and compensation management. After three to five years, I plan to come back to China and enter a foreign-owned enterprise as a HR Supervisor or start a business with partners.
I believe that with the excellent Management education of George Mason University, I will successfully fulfill my career objectives and realize the unity of interest and career.
